The villagers,realizing how much it could protect them, decided to go even further. On their own,without any extra funding or outside help, they built an additional five meters of gabionwall. This extension, done entirely by the community, showed their deep commitment tomaking sure their village was safe from future floods.A New BeginningWith the wall completed, the people of Dhadaar could finally breathe a sigh of relief. Forthe first time in years, they didn’t have to fear the rainy season. They didn’t have toworry about floods washing away their homes or their crops. The wall gave themsomething precious—security.Elder Ahmed captured the spirit of the village when he said:“It is an excellent intervention that will bring enormous benefit to us living in Dhadaar. Inaddition to being no longer in danger, we will finally have the chance to start makinglong-term plans, instead of having to rebuild everything every year because of floods thatswept away our homes and crops every rainy season.”A Lesson in ResilienceThis project didn’t just protect Dhadaar from floods—it strengthened the communityitself.
