TSS works with communities and public cultural institutions to preserve Somali heritage, strengthen artistic skills and create inclusive spaces for learning, performance and civic participation.<\/p>

Preserving heritage through practical participation<\/h2>

In May 2024, TSS implemented a five-day Somali Heritage and Culture Programme in Boosaaso. The programme combined guided learning, live artistic performance and a Somali poetry competition. It connected cultural expression with identity, community cohesion and the transfer of knowledge between generations.<\/p>

Institutional collaboration:<\/strong> The programme was implemented by TSS in collaboration with the Puntland Ministry of Information, Communication, Heritage and Culture.<\/div><\/section>

Participants received practical instruction in Somali cultural games and traditional performance, with particular emphasis on Dhaanto.<\/p><\/article>

Emerging performers were given a public platform to demonstrate their abilities, build confidence and learn from one another.<\/p><\/article>

Poetry competition and guidance<\/h3>

Contestants practised Somali poetry composition and presentation and received direct technical feedback from facilitators.<\/p><\/article><\/div>

Activity figures may overlap because some people may have participated in more than one component.<\/p><\/section>

Our approach<\/h3>

We use demonstration, guided practice, performance, competition, dialogue and facilitator feedback. This learn-by-doing method allows cultural knowledge holders, performers and learners to contribute in an inclusive setting.<\/p><\/div>

Next steps<\/h3>

TSS aims to expand future editions through storytelling, traditional crafts, music, intergenerational dialogue and continued mentoring for promising performers and poets, supported by stronger participation and learning records.<\/p><\/div><\/section>
